What Is Brain Synchronization, What Does It Do, And Do Binaural Beat Programs Like Holosync Deliver?
By Chris Connard
Brain synchronization, which is sometimes called brainwave entrainment, is the tendency of the brain to naturally change it brainwave (EEG) frequency to match the frequency of the dominant external stimuli. Lower brain frequencies, specifically the Theta and Delta states, which are commonly associated with meditation, deep relaxation, and REM sleep. When the brain is in these two relaxed states, it eliminates stress hormones such as cortisol and causes the production of beneficial hormones such as DHEA and melatonin. The most effective way to do this currently is through binaural beats, two different beat frequencies played in each ear in order to entrain a third frequency in the brain. Brainwave synchronization is not a new invention by any means. Drum circles, chanting, and prayer all can cause this effect, as well as some types of music.
As brain waves move down from the frequencies of Beta to Alpha to Theta to Delta by means of a binaural beat such as Holosync, the activity of the two sides of the brain, left and right, begin to balance. This is referred to as whole brain thinking or functioning. Holosync claims that using both sides of the brain to think, as opposed to just one, as we normally do, is like “thinking in stereo”. Whole brain thinking has been linked to increased insight, learning capacity, ability to solve problems, and memory retention. It has also been linked to geniuses such as Einstein, and Mozart, and other outstanding intellects.
Meditation makes many of the same claims as brain entrainment, the goal being to move the mind down into a relaxed Theta frequency, with experienced meditators achieving the Delta frequency. Many studies have proven the usefulness of meditation in dealing with stress and insomnia. A neurophysiologist from the University of Colorado declared that meditation “rewires the brain” after using a functional MRI to examine brain activity.
Holosync provides a number of testimonials from happy users on their website. Reading through meditation forums on the internet, many satisfied customers can be found as well. A study carried out at the Centerpointe Research Institute on people using Holosync audio technology showed on average 43.77% increases in DHEA(a buffer against stress hormones, and a key determinant of physiological age and resistance to disease), 46.47% reduction in cortical(a stress hormone), and 97.77% increase in melatonin(a hormone that helps restful sleep). The claims of improved brain functioning are difficult to measure, but hundreds of testimonials on their website seem to believe it.
Some claim that HoloSync’s product is not worth the cost. Others claim that “whole brain thinking” is pseudoscience, although studies have been published confirming the validity of relaxation response, brainwave entrainment, and brainwave frequencies. When a product is a scam, it is usually found out in time. But when millions of people continue to use something despite past confusions, it makes a powerful statement for a product. Scientific research continues in this exciting new area and only time will tell.
